Sue Decotiis, MD: In The News

foxnewsWeight Loss Pill Qsymia Now for Sale Online “The FDA approved Qsymia last July, a few weeks after granting approval to another weight loss pill, Belviq, which is expected to hit the market in early 2013. Qsymia and Belviq work in different ways. It’s an important day for people whose weight is destroying their health, says Sue Decotiis, MD, of New York’s Manhattan Medical Weight Loss Physician, a practice specializing in obesity treatment. Decotiis has no ties to companies that make weight loss drugs. For us weight loss specialists, any new tool we can get our hands on is very exciting,” Decotiis says. “We’re not talking about the person who just needs to lose 10 pounds. We are talking about the patient who is obese or very overweight with related health problems.”

Recently, the FDA approved two new weight loss medications (Belviq and Qysmia), and America breathed a sigh of relief. While weight loss drugs have always been a topic of controversy, over the years it has become clear that their addition to the dieting efforts of many individuals who struggle with obesity is extremely beneficial. And with more than onethird of Americans (35.7%) falling under the “obese” category, it is no surprise that medical alternatives to diet and exercise are needed to counteract the issue. Dr. Sue DeCotiis, New York City based Medical Internist and Weight Loss Management Specialist, outlines diet drugs that are either available or will be soon, and explains the chemical balances of the medications that promote weight loss.

“While there are potential side effects with every medication, long-term studies show that overweight patients do much better losing and keeping off weight when they are prescribed a weight-loss drug,” says Dr. DeCotiis. “Weight loss medications work in conjunction with healthy eating and exercise, and offer individuals a chance at a real lifestyle change. Those who suffer from obesity often have a host of other health problems that come with the condition. These drugs can alleviate those symptoms, and the result is that many of these patients will live longer and avoid the consequences of medical problems such as hypertension, stroke, and heart attack.”

frenchtribune Vivus’s Expectations Drop Its Shares | French Tribune: Vivus Pharmaceuticals says that Qsymia pronounced as kyoo-SIM-ee-uh is the first ever drug helping in weight loss. And development of the same has taken almost 13 years. While another drug named Belviq was approved by the FDA earlier, Qsymia received its approval last July after Belviq. It has been found that Belviq would be reaching the market by early 2013.

On the other hand, Manhattan Medical Weight Loss Physician Sue Decotiis, MD says that lifestyle changes alone can also help. Nonetheless, as per the findings, Qsymia helps in weight reduction by some 11% to 14% with side effects like birth defects if consumed during pregnancy. Also, increased heart rate and serious eye problems are amid other problems.
